And in the blink of an eye August is done and dusted! The months seem to fly by, especially when our supporters keep us busy with fundraising initiatives…
We want to thank each and every person who dedicated their precious time to generating funds for our service, so here’s a little shoutout to people across the North who’ve played their part in keeping our helicopters in the sky during Summer.
Guess who’s back, back again?
In August, we were delighted to welcome the lovely gents from the Appleby Rotarians back to our base.
After all, they did donate an astonishing £5,000 from the money they generated from car parking at the annual Appleby New Fair.
This means that since 2009, the club has raised a mammoth £41,292 for our life-saving service! Thankfully, at the time of the airbase visit, the helicopter returned from a call-out, so we were able to celebrate their efforts with a chat with our crew and some pictures with the heli.
Be more Paul
How cute is Paul from Appleby? This cheery bloke received a length of service voucher from his employer, J T Atkinson.
It was worth £250, and he donated the lot to us! Paul’s kindness melts our hearts.
I got a brand-new combine harvester
Now this is the kind of traffic jam we don’t mind getting stuck in… 69 tractors all gathered to parade around Oulton in aid of our charity.
Lovely loyal supporter Shaun Carruthers kindly organised the annual event for us. It was fundraiser Mieke’s greatest pleasure to adjudicate the ‘vintage’ and ‘modern’ tractors… it’s a gift she didn’t know she had!
Bullseye
Volunteer David Walton had the honour of representing GNAAS at Jim Harding’s clay pigeon shoot meal and presentation.
David was personally invited for a delicious spread at the Dudley Arms, where he had the chance to chat about our service, collect funds from the pigeon shoot, and say a heartfelt thank you for the shooters’ support.
Walking with purpose
We were over the moon to see former GNAAS patient Lee stood outside our HQ ahead of a 14-mile walk in aid of our charity.
This time last year, he was undergoing an intense recovery after being involved in an incident that our Cumbrian team responded to, they treated him and took him to James Cook Hospital.
To thank our service, Lee decided to walk from our airbase in Stockton, to the hospital that treated him for his injuries.
Fishing for funds
We love it when small local businesses play their part in saving lives.
Fyne Fish in Cockermouth came up with the excellent idea of raffling off a seafood platter worth £70, and it went down swimmingly, if you will.
Their initiative generated £446.46, and just goes to show you can well and truly fundraise in weird and wonderful ways.
We are the mods
Grab your parker jacket, the mods are in town! Or at least, they were at Progress House…
The Middlesbrough Transporters scooted over to our air base to present us with a cheque for £1,453.67, funds they raised for their 45th birthday celebrations.
Sadly, our helicopter was attending a mission while the group came for their visit, so a picture was off the cards… however, we improvised with our fundraising vans!
